Jet Off To Lanzarote This Autumn

Thinking of escaping the cold weather and grey skies of the UK this autumn?  Then why not take a longer look at the little island of Lanzarote.  Just a four hour flight but a world away in terms of sunshine and climate.
Lanzarote is located on the same line of longitude as part of Mexico and the Bahamas and as a result is the closest autumn and winter sun destination to mainland Europe and the UK.  It isn’t as well known as the larger islands in the chain such as Tenerife and Gran Canaria, yet still attracts s close to 1.4 million visitors every year.  Over half of them from Britain.  With temperatures remaining in the high 20´s degrees Celsius into October and beyond.
Getting to the island is simple as there are cheap flights to Lanzarote available from airports across the UK with carriers such as Ryanair and easyJet.  Expect to pay in the region of €200 return during the autumn months.  But also note that upon arrival there are no shuttle bus services connecting the airport at Arrecife to the resorts.  So it is advisable to book Lanzarote airport transfers before touching down.
Once on the island visitors soon find that everything is open as usual.  There is no real season on Lanzarote as the island welcomes visitors 12 months of the year.  So all Lanzarote hotels and restaurants are open for business as usual.
The good thing though is that in the autumn visitors can enjoy the island and its many attractions without the summer crowds and at their own pace.  Beaches and bars are quieter and there are no queues to get into key sights such as the impressive Timanfaya Volcano Park.  Home to over 300 burnt out and now dormant peaks.
There are three great resorts to choose from.  Puerto del Carmen is the largest and the liveliest.  Home to some great beaches and excellent hotels, such as the Los Fariones and the San Antonio.  As well as the Old Town harbour area which is a really atmospheric spot for enjoying meals outdoors under the stars.
Playa Blanca is the second biggest resort and it is located in the south of the island.  And tourists staying here will also find a great selection of golden sandy beaches to enjoy such as Playa Dorada and nearby Papagayo.  Work to complete the beach at Playa Flamingo was still on going during the summer months but should have been completed in time for anyone planning a holiday here in October.
